Is there a way to activate a digital cable box without the cable co.? I
currently have digital cable and would like to add an additional box, but am
to cheap to pay for another. Please let me know.

No. Digital cable boxes will not work without authorization from the cable
company. A few companies are starting to allow customers to use store bought
boxes, so you could call them and ask them to authorize it, but if it is a
box from another system bought on ebay or elsewhere, no cable company will
authorize it, because it actually belongs to the cable company it came from.
The vast majority of digital boxes for sale at auction sites and elsewhere
were stolen (or not returned to the cable company, which amounts to the same
thing).
