I have the new Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 DVR box and noticed there is
a USB port on the front of the box. Does anyone know if the USB port can be
used to download the movies to a PC? As soon as I can get the proper USB
cable I'm going to try it. Just wondering if anyone has already attempted
this.

Thanks

It's for a device to connect to the box, like a keyboard. I've read
other posts elsewhere where someone put in a keyboard, and then
rebooted and the 8000 recognized the keyboard. You cannot use this
port to transfer any data from the 8000 to a home pc, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the info. Nice to get a straight answer on this
board for a change.

Has anyone found a way to down load the recorded movies on the DVR HDD to an
alternate device. There are 2 Firewire ports on the back. Can they be
utilized to d/l to an alternate device such as a linux based system?
