I want to purchase my friends digital cable box from her and use it in my
house, since I have digital cable in one of my rooms do I have to notify
cable co. about this one I am going to put in another room???

Yes, you do, in fact, i would recomend contacting them to before you
purchase the converter from your friend. There is numerious compatability
issue's reguarding digital cable converters from company to company. And
that is still assuming that your local cable provider will allow Customer
Premises Equipment. Most will let you, but they will need certain numbers
off the cable box, and need to download a compatable shareware version of
the Programming Guide into the box.
