Motorola Broadband Communications Sector today announced that the
Motorola MediaCipher® CableCARD received OpenCable certificated
status in CableLabs®' recently completed Certification Wave 16.
This latest achievement by Motorola ensures operators and consumers
that the Motorola MediaCipher CableCARD is interoperable with other
devices that meet the requirements for OpenCable. The OpenCable
specification standardizes the communications between a digital
set-top and an individual addressable security module. Through
the use of a removable security module such as the Motorola
MediaCipher CableCARD, an OpenCable-compliant digital set-top
purchased at retail can be functional in a cable system that employs
Motorola's MediaCipher conditional access system by simply
inserting the MediaCipher CableCARD into the digital set-top.
The recognition of the Motorola MediaCipher CableCARD demonstrates
the company's efforts in supporting the interoperability provisions
of the "Plug and Play" Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the
consumer electronics industry and broadband cable operators.
