Hi,

I have the Rogers Digital Cable Service in Ontario. I am currently using
Explorer 2000 and I would like to get a 2nd box to put on my other TV.

If I buy a Scientific-Atlanta Explorer 2000 Box from Ebay in the U.S. will
it work with my Rogers Digital service in Ontario?

My Cable Provider said that it might work with their Authorization codes.
Is this the way to go? Or is there a better solution?

Thanks,

TjC

Probably not. The boxes the sell through retailers come through their
system, the one you but from nowhere will not.

You can buy or rent another box.

Hey stupid shit Tait...it will work...if he takes it to the head end
and have them reprogram it on the spot. And you thought you knew
everything, dipshit! And go back to school and learn to write.

O it can work, that's great. Scanmaster, Who do I take it to get it
reprogrammed? Does" Head End" mean my Cable Company will reprogram the box
and is that something they will usually do?

Thanks

The head end is the cable company's technical operations center.
That's where they have the computers to re-program compatible digital
boxes, including firmware upgrades. Most companies will accommodate
you...as long as the box off Ebay (or wherever) isn't a stolen item.

Scanmaster,
How will I know if the Box is compatible. What should I look for (the
serial #)? What should I ask the cable company?

AFAIK, you don't, it is a gamble.

Brian.
It is because there is supposedly authorization data particular to the
box that is issued to the provider when they receive them from the
manufacturer. The chances are that the box you buy from nowhere will
not have the needed data in your provider's authorisation system.
