I had digital cable installed while I was at work yesterday. Came home to
find a DCT-2244 with only analog outputs. NOT what I expected. I called
customer service and the polite person (who sounded like she knew nothing
about fiber optics and digital coax) assured me that this was the only box
available. Should I believe her or should I drop in at the cable office and
try to exchange it?

Visit an office.
There are DCT5100 with optical & coaxial digital audio outputs, and
DVI or component video.

I went to the cable office and found that they have three differebt boxes. I
got one with digital coax and s-video outs. The other one they have is a
high definition box that MUST be installed by a tech for $30. Don't need
high def yet so no problem.
