I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question. If it's not,
could you please direct me to the appropriate one? My question is:
Is there a way to hook up a tv to use the picture in picture feature by
by-passing the cable box temporarily, and then switching back? I can't use
it now because the cable box only descrambles one channel at a time. This
is such a great feature and I'd really like to be able to use it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If your TV has 2 tuners for PIP, you can split the cable before it enters
the cable box, and feed one side of the split to Antenna "A" input and the
other through the cable box to antenna "B" input. If it only has one tuner
you can use the same split and feed the output of the box to a VCR first and
connect the VCR to the TV on the RCA audio and video inputs.

Hi Laura
Yes I made one for my TV about $30
It should look like this:
Loading Image...
But that one will not work for cable tv PIP!
I replaces the high pass filter with a Channel 3 trap /Band
Reject-Negative [from toner cable] I ordered two and I used two traps.
http://www.tonercable.com/
and then replace the lower Splitter/Combiner with a Tru-Spec Signal
Combiner SC-3 .

And then you will have a HomeMade Cable Box By-Pass suitable for a TV
with one RF input.
=A0=A0=A0=A0You will then find the cable box scrambled channels on TV
channel 3 plus still have PIP operation with a Two Tuner PIP TV for the
unscambled channels.
For a one tuner PIP tv just run the cable box through the VCR.
A BY-Pass Box saves your composite in-puts for VCR+DVD+Webtv {like my
RCA with 1-RF input}
[ If you have two RF inputs on your TV you just come out of the splitter
with the A trunk and the other TV RF input gets the output from the
cable box ]
I lost Ch. 3/4 from the TV tuner
{ 4-CBS and front door 3-security camera } with this set-up but have
them in the Cable Box or VCR, also Ch. 4 is a little less resolution;
but have not tried the adjustments on the Tru-Spec SC-3 yet, as I want
to open it up and note/mark the original setting before I touch it.
Hope this helps
