Discussion:
Horrible Tiling Problem

Four or five years ago, when digital cable was offered to subscribers
(I think it was Media One here in L.A. back then; it is now Comcast),
I was one of the first people to sign up. Unfortunately, I experienced
severe and frequent tiling problems, forcing me to go back to the
analog box.

When analog customers were told that they were losing some programming
(including some HBOs) unless they upgraded to digital, I called to
complain to Comcast about my previous problems with digital. I was
told that all of the problems had been resolved regarding tiling, that
the underground cables were insufficient before but are 100 percent
better now, and that I should try it again.

Yesterday, I received a digital box (and had to reconfigure my entire
TiVo setup to accommodate it). Everything looked great.

Until this morning.

Again, the awful tiling is back. Most channels show me a title card
that simply says something to the effect of, "This channel should be
available shortly. Please wait a moment." But on others, the tiling is
so severe as to be unwatchable. What is causing this? What's the
solution? I would go to satellite, except I live in an apartment
building where that's not an option.

Thanks,

Brett

You should call Comcast, and have them come take a look at the problem. If
you dont get the results you want you should contact a supervisor, of the
tech that trouble shot the issue. Make sure that he dosnt just say the
cable is bad in the apartment (it might be), but have him show you why.
Maybe if applicable have him run a cable inside from outside into your
apartment. That is a major problem, when the complex itself wont upgrade
the prewired cable. It could be several things from insificent signal, to a
bad connector. Have them throughly trouble shoot. You pay good money for
cable. Comcast droped some premium channels from analog to digital, however
it is only a matter of time before analog is no longer offered anyhow. It
will adventully be all digital. More bandwidth.
